GREAT MINDS

I chose Alvin Lustig for my Great Minds project. He was a jewish american Designer that introduced many modern principles to american graphic design and had an immense impact on modern american graphic design. I really enjoyed researching Alvin Lustig and his works.

CONCEPTUAL IMAGE

Here is my mind map. I ended up doing a poster design on the idea of corporatacracy. Here's oxford dictionaries definition if your unfamiliar with the term: A society or system that is governed or controlled by corporations: in this age of corporatocracies, the money goes not to the inventor, but to the company.I named the the piece is 'Corportocrazy'.
I started with a simple picture of the lincoln monument.

I started off making the image more and more complex to explain the concept of corporatacracy. I realized the graphic was to busy a left little to conceptualize.

I ended up on this final version that is more simplified. Its showing a businessman slipping money under the lincoln monument as a metaphor for big corporate money paying off the government.

GRAPHIC TRANSLATION

This is the font pallet  I experimented with. I ended up using HaulinHouse Solid for my main logo.

Original image used for threshold.

This is the translated image that I ended up using for the final logo.

Heres another translation I did but ended up not using as the final logo.

I Made these logos but was not as into them so I started over with another graphic translation below.

I was more pleased with the outcome of this logo. I went for the double registered transparency look. It also has that 80's funky, fun feeling that I was going for with the brand. I also had some cool fonts to use courtesy of professor Sean Bacon.

DESIGN PROBLEM 7: Layers and Transparency

Here are my original shapes cut out.

I used this cloud picture I had from my cell phone as a texture in the background.

As I was playing with the shaped I kind of saw a bird man with a briefcase. Coincidentally the background is clouds.

I made this little sequence into a video on premiere pro. I just added some music and adjusted the sequences to hit on the beats. I couldn't quite figure out the format of my images so it cuts off the edges a little.

DESIGN PROBLEM 6: Border Play Transparency Part B

Here are a few of my logos with and without borders on tissue paper.

These are my logo and border variations for Dirty Designs. A freelance design business of my own. I used Prestige Elite Std as a typeface.

Here are some font options to possibly be used for Dirty Designs.

DESIGN PROBLEM 6: Border Play Framing Part A

Interesting to see how much the feeling of the logo changes when you change the type/logo in the center. The one above has a more masculine feeling. The type style doesn't really match the border style on the bottom but still interesting to see the borders with different options.
here are some of my logo idea sketches.
Here I played with assorted borders. A few are slight variations of each other. All of them show simple ways to showcase the 'D' symbol in a border. Didn't get too crazy with color but I played with that a little as well. Heres a few more I did using different type logos that I made/modified.

DESIGN PROBLEM 5: Patterning
